“Valuing Art, Architecture and Luxury Real Estate” is the subject of the fourth event in the Arts and Culture Series sponsored by the Alliance of Business Professionals, a New Canaan based group representing a wide variety of community business resources. The event will be held on Thursday, evening, November 10 at the Hemicycle House in New Canaan

The featured speaker is George Ballantyne, renowned art historian and former Senior Vice President of Sotheby’s International Realty who also served as a liaison between the real estate division and Sotheby’s Fine Arts Auction House. The evening will also celebrate the Hemicycle House, one of New Canaan’s most unique contemporary homes , designed by John Howe, a top apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin. Mr. Ballantyne, who received his MA at Columbia University and MBA from Boston University, wrote his thesis on “Frank Lloyd Wright and His Clients”.

Prior to joining Sotheby’s International Realty, he worked for Citibank’s Financial Management division in NY, serving the banking needs of high net worth clients where he introduced the concept of fine arts as collateral for demand loans which became a foundation of Sotheby’s Financial Services. Previously he was Director of the Detroit Institute of Arts. A resident of Bay Bay, Boston, he currently serves on the board of trustees of Historic New England.

The Alliance of Business Professionals, founded in 2004 by Bill Bergner of State Farm Insurance  and Morris Barocas of the Barocas Law Firm, has grown to include 17 members  in various professions. The goal of members is supporting and providing a sounding board for one  another, promoting the town of New Canaan and providing a network of resources for their individual clients. Guests are frequently invited to Alliance weekly meetings, as introducing other business professionals to current members is a priority.
