1st Selectman Mallozzi with members of the Alliance of Business Professionals“We are all here because we appreciate and believe in ‘brand’ New Canaan, First Selectman Rob Mallozzi told members of the Alliance of Business Professionals at a recent meeting of the Alliance, a network of professionals involved in a wide variety of local businesses. The Alliance frequently invites community leaders of non-profit organizations as well as local business owners to its weekly meetings for a mutual exchange of information. First Selectman Mallozzi was the first official government guest.

New Canaan is a bit off the beaten track, but its beautiful countryside, outstanding historic and modern architecture and community spirit attract many of the nation’s best and brightest. The historic charm of the village is a real draw, according to Mr. Mallozzi. “When new people come to town, I want them to see the original Town Hall building opposite the Fire Department, as well as the New Canaan Library’s stately original home.” These buildings are part of the fabric of New Canaan, and their new additions currently in the works should bring them gracefully into the 21st Century, according to Mallozzi.

The New Canaan real estate/business environment was also discussed and the empty store-front situation is now much improved, with newcomers, such as the bicycle shop adding to the rich fabric of the town offerings. A major effort is made to recruit new businesses which will add to the diverse attractions of the town, said Mallozzi.

The Alliance of Business Professionals was formed in 2004 by Morris Barocas of the Barocas Law Firm and Bill Bergner, owner of State Farm Insurance in New Canaan. Since then it has expanded to include J. Berry of JB Design, John Murphy and Bill Budd of Morgan Stanley, Carol Hollyday and Rita Kirby of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, Don Moyle of Insurance Navigation (health), John Nelson, CPA of Nelson & Koeppen; Amy Gildea and Chieh Jen of People’s Bank, Andrew Nuzzi, architect, Anna Maria Kinberg, interior designer, Cynthia Herbert of Appretium Appraisal Services, Dom Bonarrigo, management consultant and career transition coach and Nancy Helle, free lance writer and public relations consultant. The goal of members is  to support and act as a board of directors for another, to provide a network of quality resources for their individual clients and to promote the town of New Canaan.
